He began: ‘Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement, it really means a lot to hear. Especially from people who have gone through similar things in life.

‘I never thought my actions would mean so much to so many people. In the same way I never thought I would get this far in life. That’s exactly what pushed me to do it.’

Poignant: Following a wave of support, Cameron – who has ‘severe’ special educational needs – filmed a video in which he admitted he didn’t believe that he would ever ‘get this far in life’

He continued: ‘After being told and shown that I would not be able to achieve anything of significance I started to believe it but one emotion kept me going, spite.

‘The drive to spite all that told me I would fail but most importantly to spite myself. I will keep on improving and achieving things that I never thought I would be able to, to spite the past version of myself that never thought I could.

‘If you doubt yourself then just imagine the satisfaction of proving everyone, and yourself, wrong. Because I will tell you right now, it is very satisfying.’

‘Then he changed school to mainstream age 10 but still had additional specialist help. I knew he was super bright but that his development curve would be a different shape to”normal”‘.

Carol’s pride was even further reinforced, as she informed her fans that through Cameron’s endless bullying, a changed school and his developmental strategies to learn, he got a first class degree in animation from University of the West of England Bristol, as well as his recent Master’s.

The star, who rose to fame in 1982 when she joined gameshow Countdown, went so far as explaining her son’s ‘different’ development curve in a graph – claiming that the mainstream system ‘doesn’t cater well’ for those children with learning difficulties.
